Pollack made some good movies and I rather liked Beryl Cook's work ~ I always felt that those who called it simple were missing something. A bit like those who only saw the smut in McGill postcards.

I don't think she ever really claimed it to be high art. Personally I found her talented and her work intriguing! I don't always want to sit in awe of art sometimes I just want to be entertained.

Pollack, genius!

That surprised me as well.

Not just a Hitchcock-style walk on either.

I agree about Ms Cook. She never claimed to be anything really but what I meant was that there was humour, insight and wit in her work that many "high brows" missed completely.

Yves Saint Laurent, considered by many as the greatest fashion designer of the 20th Century, has died in Paris at the age of 71.

Never knew him, of course, but another icon of one's youth has gone.
