Damn, I used to really enjoy watching him play a role when I was younger and was watching Fail Safe earlier. He was a very underrated actor with one hell of a screen presence as much from his personality as his physical stature.

I met him a few times over the years, both while he was an MP and after he retired and always found him to be a genuine down to earth Cornishman with a great sense of humour.

Sadly he was replaced as MP by Seb Coe and the less said there the better (although I will admit I may have not made a good impression with him by asking how running really fast makes him suited to be an MP for a constituency he was parachuted in to).  noooo:

There is a photograph floating around somewhere of Coe shaking my hand over some event at college a couple of months later that was never used in the local paper. Given that friends described him as having a pained smile and me having a slightly evil one I can't think why.  whistle:
