I know ~ I was about to hit the monitor when I worked it out. What do they think they are playing at? .... it saves no leccy.
Stupid Yank B@st@rds! evil:

Google were perfectly aware that their black screen made no difference to the electricity consumption on the monitor, they explained that. They were just promoting Earth Hour.

Nothin stupid about promoting the reduction of energy usage.

Given the time, effort and ENERGY expended to plan and execute that little promotion, because we all know that no corporation would be able to do it without sundry meetings, teleconferences, systems plans, backups and all related paraphernalia, sundry faffing, rehearsals, trials etc., they probably used more energy than they managed to persuade anyone to save.

I believe Google are a little more 'laid back' than other Corporations so my supposition is they probably didn't.

"Today, a young man on acid realised that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves..."

- Bill Hicks.

So let's stop all this nonsense about saving energy.  ;D
