The Boat Race
« on: March 29, 2008, 03:58:15 PM »
As an erstwhile rower myself I always used to go and watch this.NOw I have to make do with TV coverage (this year interweb coverage evil:).

The betting is, I gather, on which crew will sink first!

SHould be fun!

You can still get odds on both boats sinking ...... seems that 40mph crosswinds are expected.
Start is at 17.15 I understand.

And did she kiss the cox of the Cambridge Crew?

Quote
Harry Carpenter commentating on the boat race: " Ahh, isn't that nice? The wife of the Cambridge president is kissing the cox of the Oxford crew."

'Deed I do BM. Used to be a good day out to go down to the river, sink a few pints and watch the punts go by .... then there was the race itself of course. Ripping good fun.
Times have, sadly, changed.

Well rowing is a sport still ~ isn't it?

I recall a local rowing club when I lived in Southampton. Their president was getting married and the club members formed an arch for the bride and groom to walk through as they left the church. There they all stood with their blades aloft forming the archway.

I said to my Mum "Are they oars Mum?"

"No dear" she said "They are the bridesmaids"

We watched it on the interweb, which means that The Boy now realises it is possible to watch TV on the PC.
