Traffic lights
« on: April 12, 2008, 11:46:13 AM »
Think I've ranted about this before tbh, but the piss just keeps on boiling, and will do until I get a definative answer off someone.

WHY T.F. do lights stay on red whilst the opposing road is empty, that is until a lonesome vehicle appears on it, and they then change to red for him/her as they approach them?
This happened to me again this morning, as it usually does at these offending/offensive lights. cussing:
It's got to the point now where I actually slip the car into neutral and turn the bloody engine off as I approach them on green, cus I damned well know they are going to turn to red just before I reach them.

I thought this poxy lie ridden government were actually encouraging us to all save fuel, not waste it sitting at red lights having a kip. evil:

I wrote to the D.O.T. months ago asking for some sort of explanation, but just like at their bloody lights, I'm still waiting.

Most lights work to a preset timetable so your appraoch should not, in theory, make any difference.
In some German cities that I have driven through the lights of main routes are sycronised so that if you go through on green and maintain the legal limit you will go through all others on green as well, speed or go too slow and you will get red. They can control the lights from a central command and vary the times according to traffic flows (See "The Italian Job" for a similar idea). It will be a long while before the UK catches up I suspect as I first saw this system 35 years ago and it wasn't new then.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

Happening more and more now I find.
There's one particular set on the main road leading into Chester, Nick will know them, Goredale nurseries. These lights control a very busy entrance/exit during the daytime. However, at night, the place is shut and therefore they are totally pointless.
This doesn't make any difference though. They WILL turn to red as you approach them providing nothing has gone through them within the previous minute. It is quite simply a pointless exercise being put into place to slow and stop the traffic, for no other reasons other than to piss us all off and waste fuel.
Another hidden agenda to rake more fuel tax in, no doubt about it, bunch of two faced hypocrytical bastards.
Now I consider myself as a safe, law abiding and considerate driver in the main, but  If the road is clear behind and in front, I simply stick me foot down and sail through them on red. Not particulary happy about it, but I am heartily sick to the back teeth of these money grabbing dictatorial twats in power over us all. cussing:

I remember my dad taking me to work with him ~40 years ago… he was an early starter so there was no other traffic on the road when we set out (about 5am I suppose). I was amazed how all the traffic lights changed to green when he approached… they used to have those rubber bumps if you remember, I think the car tyre compressed the air in them and they flicked a switch… obviously with some ‘logic’ built-in so they didn’t change if somebody was also coming the other way…

Progress eh?  noooo:

Also, everywhere else I’ve been (‘cept the UK and here) has those flashing amber lights at off peak times so you can cross if nothing else is coming…

Also, in the ‘States they have those four-way stop junctions which work remarkably well – everybody waits their turn…

The vast majority of the great British public have simply been 'brainwashed' into acceptance regarding everything that this government say's, does and demands from us, wellm the Mrs Growlers of this world anyway. ::)
A nation full of 'rolled over and tickled tummies'. Banghead

Trouble is, I'M being classed as some sort of bloody ecentric bad tempered grumpy oddball because i DARE to generally go against the flow in a non conforming manner, and DARE to question and critisise those that make all these poxy decisions.

"Just calm down and accept it all. There's nothing you can do about it all, so accept it"  ::)

PISS RIGHT OFF! cussing:

That's another of my questionining of those in power.
WHY do they create diversions around major road works, and THEN start digging up the diversionary route!!!!
I know of TWO such cases locally. In fact Nick, one of them is near you on that road that leads up to the top Chester road. Had temporary lights on it for months now. never see any lazy bum clevaged 'worker' there though.
What's THAT all about ey? ::)
I really feel like getting out of the car sometimes and knocking the bastard temporary lights over.

I'm not in a very good mood today btw.
