To be fair Nick could make up any story involving himself and some kind of cock up and we'd believe it.  whistle:

"If I ever marry you, you bastard, it will have to be in a Catholic church"
"OK"

We were by that pub by the river in Barnes (WHite Hart?) and had to go in for a Scotch!

Funny that ~ same with me and Mrs S#1  eeek:

"You don't really want to get married do you AND I am having second thoughts". This raged for two days at the end of which we cancelled the planned "big" wedding, sped to the Registry Office in Swindon and did the deed. Just us and two witnesses present .... all parents on both sides highly miffed when we 'phoned to tell them the wedding was off because we had already done it.

My Mum and Dad got married because they had booked a holiday before they split up and couldn't decide who should have it.

They were together. They booked a holiday. They then split up. Months later they then met up to discuss who should have the holdiday. Mum and new bloke or Dad and new girlfriend. Dad apparently said sod it. Lets get married and use the holdiay as a honeymoon. They got married two days later.

Makes more sense than many of the reasons for marriage I have heard down the years.
