Inflating your pyjamas

So The Boy has swimming on Mondays and today he had to take in a pair of pyjamas as they were doing "life-saving".

I recall doing something simliar at the same age.

The mystery is this. Has anyone, ever, in the whole history of the world been saved from drowning by someone who yelled, "It'salright, I have some pyjamas with me in my beach bag. I shall inflate them and go to the rescue."?

What possible scenario could lead to this event? rubschin:

PS Plummetting aircraft into Med perhaps. Wonder if BM has his jim-jams in his luggage rubschin:

From vague memory I seem to think it isn't so much about inflating but being able to swim and get out of clothing in the water.  rubschin:

So it is pointless. You are drowning (fully clothed) and you take off your clothes and inflate them. Yes.

And congrats to DS on his Unwin impression.

It is about being able to swim whilst clothed ...... and mothers object if their little darlings get heaved into the deep end wearing close on £100 worth of school uniform. PJs are reckoned on being a washable alternative.

I understand that in the Navy the requirment is that the swimmers have to wear their overalls ~ slightly heavier weight than PJs but, being cotton, equally dryable .

I have just given you the truthful answer. It is a test of swimming abilty and like all tests a "level playing field" is required. The wearing of PJs ensure that all children taking part are clothed in approximately the same weight of clothing.  Banghead Banghead Banghead

IIRC, you weren't being trained to rescue a person, you were being trained to save a drowning brick from the deep end. Still never put this particular training to use. Here's a memory
