The Counsellor is a film with one aim, to win as many Oscars as it can. The only problem with this overly ambitious aim? It isn't any good despite the A-List director and all-star cast. The main problem of this film can be summed up in one word, boring, because that's exactly what this film is.At 117 minutes long this film felt like it was 3 hours long film. To be honest I hadn't a clue what the plot was about before seeing this film and I still only have a vague idea. It seems the counsellor as everyone calls him including his girlfriend is getting involved in a drug deal with Javier Bardem and gets the money from Brad Pitt. In a completely separate incident, someone steals a shipment of drugs from The Cartel. The Cartel believes that it was the counsellor as he made a phone call to get the son of his court appointed client out of prison. The end.Michael Fassbender does some excellent acting as the Counsellor and if the sole reason I went to see films were the acting then I would highly recommend this. Javier Bardems hair is brilliant, I like the style as the fact that he had two cheetahs, always was partying and had loads of nice cars didn't really drive home to me the fact that this guy lives carefree and dangerously. Brad Pitt is also great as the guy who at the start of the film tells the counsellor not to write stuff down but after one night with a beautiful woman gives over all his bank account details.Cameron Diaz and Penelope Cruz have little to do. Although, Cameron Diaz does at one point in the film go to church. Also, this film contains some of the most pointless cameos ever; the cameos are so pointless that I think the actors have just been given small roles. In hindsight, I don't think they were cameos. Anyway, look out for Breaking Bad's Hank Schrader and ER's Dr. Luka Kovac.Overall, The Counsellor is one of those boring pretentious films you always see around Oscar season only when the Oscars do come around this film is unlikely to be nominated in anyway as it is overly boring with a story that doesn't engage at all. In the end you simply don't care what happens to any of the characters.
