The Substance last night...
Don't normally watch 'horror' but the reviews were so good I gave it a go...
Intriguing... First couple of hours were good but it turned to complete shite for the last scene... Disappointing...

This movie was disappointing to me because it had some really nice things going which made it promising for the first 66%. In the end however, it dragged to an over-the top disastrous climax which was really more gross than clever or insightful. I wish the end of the movie had been rewritten to perhaps have a confrontation with the drug makers rather than be all about her demise at a big public media event.
Any viewer on earth could anticipate that the media event wouldn't go well. They made it go about as awful as possible. But I wasn't on the edge of my seat. Instead I was just grossed out and annoyed at all of the contrivances which allowed for such a tragic concluding spectacle.
The film's visuals were pretty good if not a bit heavy handed. The sound design and score were pretty effective. The premise of the story was good. The actors did a fine job. And all of that made the end of the story that much more disappointing, given the potential. I suspect the positives are why the movie had gotten so much positive hype. But in the end, the overall story and conclusion matters too much for me to give it higher than a 6.
