How much is a blackberry? Apparently there are pink ones now!  cloud9:

Note sure Wenchy - mine is a free upgrade, but if you have a mobile contract I dare say your provider will also upgrade for nothing or little cost.

Who is your provider?  Get on the phone to them and get stroppy - you'll be surprised how quickly they capitulate!

The naming of techno gadgetry after soft fruits, indeed any fruits (I have in my possession various Apples  ::)) always called for a bit of a  ::) if not a  whacky115

When Hutchison Whampoa (sp?) sought to get into the mobile network in the UK they came up with ... Rabbit  eeek:.  I know; I was actually featured in one of the "on pack" pics. The whole thing came to nought but placed them well to obtain licence and market share for their big project...

Yes, Orange  ::)

The corporate mind is a strange thing indeed as I have mentioned elsewhere.

Its not just the mobile networks though. If you look at some of the phone manufacturers such as HTC, the names they give their handsets are actually bizarre. According to O2 I own an XDA IIs, but f you look on the HTC site its a blue angel. I'm half convinced that they just have a sack filled with pirces of paper with random words written on them and as soon as they come up with a new product they reach in and pick one out at random.

Would that it was that simple. Corporate and product branding is big business and they spend a fortune on getting the "right" name for their products.

Wallabee, Himalaya, Blue Angel? I know corproate branding is worth a lot but they seem bizarre names for PDA's given that the people most likely to purchase them are techies and gadget nuts.

Problem is that so many names have already been registered that they have to keep finding more and more. They then run the various ideas through focus groups and all sorts of other trials to see which gets the desired response. Often they do not tell the people in the test groups what they are naming but rather ask which names/words make them feel "warm" or "comfortable" and which make them "shudder" or feel "cold", which they find "attractive" and which "repellant" and so on until they can go to the client and say "The best response is for Arsehole" and thus another product is named.
