Mine's a circular dial, with the pump icon just left of centre. That would mean the filler cap is on the near side. And guess what? It is!
My Pajero has the little pump thing on the right and a little arrow pointing right (i'd never noticed that before)... and the filler is on the right! However, my truck has the little pump thing on the right (no arrow) and the filler is on the near side...
