Ooooooooooo! Redundancy looms ~ are you lining up the options? Have you worked out the pay off to make sure it is worth hanging on to the end or if you'd be better to cut and run now?

According to the government website about £7700.oo. Not exactly a fortune. What happens if the company goes bust though?  rubschin:

I am no expert but you would be entitled to a statutory payment from the Government of a few quid. Nothing like the actual redundancy but there is a scheme which pays a portion I believe. If the company goes under then the receivers are supposed to flog the assets and pay off the debts. There is an order in which creditors have to be paid. Obviously the tax man comes top of the list, then the VAT man, then the National Insurance, then any secured creditors (Banks who hold mortgages etc) then employees, then contractors, suppliers, landlords and so on. I can't guarantee the actual positions on the list but for sure the Government and Banks come ahead of the workers ~ that much I do know.

Personally I would be circulating my CV to the agencies if I were you ~ just in case like. You can always say "No thanks" to any offers which has to be better than saying "Please gizajob"

I took today off at short notice and also booked monday off. At about 11am this morning I got a phone call from a director asking me to be there at 9am sharp on Monday for a 'meeting'.

 scared2:

He said I can still have the day off after the 'meeting' and it wont just involve me.

A fiver says at some point someone will talk about the need to re-evaluate, re-trench, re-direct, assure you all of your value to them and speak of the international situation over which they "have no control" bringing them sorrowfully to an inevitable conlusion that sacrifices have to be made.

What worries you most? The thought of having to do something about finding another job (and there are plenty out there) or the loss of the security blanket built up by staying in one place so long?

'Course you'll be able to pay your rent ~ if you can't the government will. Look on it as getting back a little of what you have paid in.
