That should be OK ~ very Jewish way of cooking it. I normally get it rolled rather than flat cut so it would take longer. Frankly the longer you leave it cooking the tenderer it will be. I like it so that it flakes apart and with more veg in with it.

I darn't look at it now in case it's raw or has turned into a shoe  scared2:

It helps keep the juices in by sealing the beef before the slow cooking process.

I will let you know how it turns out. The chippy is open till 8 in case i've fooked it up

Update: It's turned brown. And when I poked it felt quite soft

I tend to do brisket in the slow cooker for over 12 hours, any less than that and it isn't quite right.
