I'm opting out of tomato and pastry and in with the cheese and mash topping.

There's enough in there without hard boiled eggs, honest.

No boiled egg in fish pie ~ that belongs in Kedgeree.
As for potato or pastry.
I had an excellent fish pie in a pub whilst on holiday in Dorset last year. Rather than mashed potato they used Rosti and then placed a cap of puff pastry on top. Clearly the pastry cap was cooked separately from the rest of the dish and added as a garnish but it worked rather well.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

We make a sort of triangle pie thing with pastry. And it has to have hard boiled eggs in!
