I just know that I am going to regret asking this but what is an expanding chilli?

Take one Nick, a tin of tomatoes, a tin of red kidney beans, some minced beef and a chilli mix in a packet and leave near a microwave for twenty minutes. It will be expanded all over the microwave, the work-top, the kitchen floor and probably the ceiling. Nick will be sat on the back steps smoking a Marlboro Light wondering what went wrong ~ again  ::)
