He could avoid shaving the doors by fitting rising butt hinges

Quite.

I have always been a keen exponent of the rising butt.

DS never mentions food apart from curries and turnips  rubschin:

( I am assuming that turnips are food)

Anyone got any carrot and nectarine recipes (to feed up to 20)?

Carrot cake. Make several and freeze then to save time and energy later.

Nectarines would make good smoothies or alternatively are never really ripe when delivered and will last in the fridge for well over a week. Ensure people know they are there and they will soon be eaten.
