 eeek:  Black velvet!   cloud9:

The drink was first created by the bartender of the Brooks's Club of London in 1861, to mourn the death of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's Prince Consort.[1] It is supposed to symbolise the black or purple cloth armbands worn by mourners.

Snakebite was bitter and cider where I came from, I never tried it, but I did have more than my fair share of Lidl black velvets in my drinking days (when I think back, ooh me head  Snoopysick: )

Snakebite is Cider and Lager mixed 50/50 ..... A drink that all members of the Christchurch and District LVA banned when I was a member. The ban came about when locals started asking for it to be made using White Lightning and Stella. 2 pints of that and even the hardened drinkers were off their heads.
