You know when you boil carrots the water turns slightly orange?  If you leave the water to go cold it turns green  eeek:
Why is that?  rubschin:

I only parboiled the carrots pre-roasty style  angel1

Carrots have been "bred" over the years to be orange. It is claimed that the Dutch bred them from Wild Carrots, which vary in colour from white to red and are very bitter in taste, to produce a vegetable in their (Dutch) national colour. Carrots often revert to green if, whilst growing, they are exposed to daylight (if for example the tops grow above ground).
"Unripe" carrots frequently have a green centre.

I do not normally grow carrots as they are cheap in the shops at a time when I would have a glut, but this year am going to do as an experiment.  I am using mostly heritage varieties  so lots of different colours and am growing them above the usual carrot fly height. It is about as interesting as paint drying and train spotting to very many people but will post the results at the end of the growing season.
I have always thought that the worst thing about drowning was having to call 'help!' You must look such a fool. It's put me against drowning.

I read, about a year or so ago, that the Dutch have now perfected a purple carrot. Apparently it tastes the same but they were unsure of public reaction. I have yet to see them in the shops here.

KFC? Drool:

Nah! Remains of yesterday's roast chuk + chips (Not deep fried either as we don't have a deep fat fryer for health reasons)

Indeed it is and I have no need of one of those now either.

But I elected to go with your name for a Deep Fat Fryer rather than start an argument  angel1
