 rubschin:  home-made ... rubschin:
a Christmas present.  You get this huge box with not much in it, you buy half a gallon of gold top milk, stir it all up, wait around and hey presto precursor Haloumi appears.  You then have to press it, heat it up in the whey for ages and a few more processes and stacks of half decent Haloumi appears

For about twice the cost, the same time and effort as nipping round to Tescos to buy some off their shelves that will keep a lot longer.

It was good though.  Just will be eating Haloumi in various forms for a week

Well, whatever, nevermind

IIRC a bucket is involved

Well as it turns out you need a bucket for this method.  Of course it has to be a stupidly expensive jam making pan but a glorified bucket is what it really is

Well, whatever, nevermind

A tiny tale of Haloumi.........

We are working at a wedding in the mountains, beautiful venue. Apey nips of into the nearest part of civilisation to buy some ciggies........2hours later he returns. I questioned where the fuck he had been (just not as polite), his reply "i met a shepherd"  noooo:

seems he came across a 200 year old man who makes his own haloumi and made an order. He spent more than we got paid for the wedding and we had to take all the shelves out of the fridge to store it in the mahoosive bucket in which it came. As nice as it was, needless to say it was a 2 year supply and it all went off before we could possibly eat it all and I had to throw it all out.

Not one of Apeys more industrious cheese moments.  noooo:
