Light cloud in Swine Town. The Mrs has the car today as I couldn't be arsed to get up and take her to the office, so I may get on a thing called a "bus" and go into town.

Or I could just get a cab...

I had a job on the buses in Swindon a long time ago ~ got sacked after 8 weeks ~ longish story, don't want to be boring.

Why change the habit of a lifetime?

Christus mate! I know you're in Swindon but life there can't be that bad ~ can it?

Is the Oxford Hotel still there? On Drove Road just up towards Christ Church from the Football Ground~ used to work there in the evenings and weekends when we lived in a flat on Drove Road in 1967/8
Then worked at the Red Lion in Stratton St Margaret before S.St.M. became part of Swindon as it now seems to be.

Not sure TBH - I'm a couple of miles the other side of Town.

I know Swindon has grown a lot since we lived there. We moved out in Dec 1970.
Married Mrs S#1 in Swindon Registry Office and we had two kids before we moved away from the town.
Hated the place TBH but the RAF sent us both there. We met at RAF Lyneham.

I got told off for flying through Lyneham's airspace once...

Oh I didn't worry, I was fairly committed to my route by then... and the Hercules that couldn't take off until I cleared the area looked lovely from 5,000 feet....

A further option has materialised - my old work colleagues are based only a mile from where I am. I have dropped them an e-mail and one has already replied suggesting picking me up and going for a pint!

I was there pre Hercules ~ In fact I saw the first ones we bought from the Yanks arrive. Mainly the Hercules were at Brize Norton which was still a Yank base in my day. I worked on Britannias, Comet IIs, Comet IVs and latterly VC10s

My personal favourite was the Britannia
