Just received a text from the children's school warning that it may be closed tomorrow.

Why do schools always seemed be affected far more by snow than anything else?  rubschin:

No snow up here ~ some on Snowdonia I noticed before the sun set ~ rather pretty it looked too but that has been there for a couple of weeks now.

Elfin safety I 'spect.

Round this way most of the teachers live out in the villages, in the hills and valleys and without 4x4s they really can't get home sometimes so they do tend to react to snow warnings rather than yer actual drifts. It has more to do with their ability, or lack of it, to get in and out than the children, most of whom live local to the school.

What use is that - a text to say that it "may". Either it will be or it won't be. You are still going to have to get the kids prepared for school as normal and they will have to trudge all the way there to find out it's closed.

The fact that a flake falls from the sky automatically sends the notification to any parent that the school may be closed  evil:

Our lot send texts where pos or make phone calls where text is not available ~ the message is usually "The school may be closed due to expected snow ~ we will broadcast of local radio FMXXX in the morning before 8am. If you are unsure or do not hear the radio broadcast please telephone the school after 0830 where the headteacher will be available. Give him his due he lives only a mile from the school and walks in if necessary to answer the phones and field any kids who do turn up. The secondary school kids all go in by bus and no bus means no school.

That's similar to what I receive.

Fortunately I don't have to worry. The children are at their mother's on a Sunday and she lives within walking distance of the school. I do the school run three mornings a week. Six miles, some country lanes so it would be a problem.

It is fair to say that the boys lost round 2 of the "Great Surrey Snowlball fight". But that's because women cheat. As always.  evil:
