Hang on a minute, surely the barb on the end is to make sure the harpoon stays in as the fish attempts a speedy escape?

I can't see the slug reacting in the same manner frankly  rubschin:

Gale force winds and lashing rain now, it's like autumn here.  There is a squirrel on the bird table eating my nuts evil:

If you don't attach a barb and 'fight' them what is the point?  Shrugs:

Alternatively you could film them making their getaway into the undergrowth and then play it back at speed x8  rubschin:

That would be convincing, surely... specially if the pin and cotton were still attached
