Was a very special time for me.   

-4 here...... but have been viewing the snow webcams around Europe.   Have you seen that snow.   

It will be skitastic this winter! 

Had a letter and Christmas card from Switzerland resident niece yesterday ~ They have been skiing for the past month.
She and partner had been shifting a 30 cm snow fall off their patio during the day before she sat down to write and that was 10 days ago

The forests were awesome when I was there in '84.
I remember it well. Escaped up there to get away from the heat and the squaddies at Aya Nappa.

In my other place we have got a wood burner. My mate down the village pub werks for the Forestry Commission, as much cheap wood as I want. Freshly cut......so goes in the wood shed for a year before burning. Three big loads for about 200 Euros lasts the winter......we get a heating allowance for about 850 Euros. 

I do not think they bother with replanting many trees though.

The house is above 575 metres from sea level, plus it depends on how many live in the place....no age restriction. They work it out on last years winter months below a certain temperature and just give you a cheque to go and cash then spend it on what you want.

I lost his number on my old phone......But it is Andreas, his son owns The Farmyard Taverna and The Village Inn in Kathikas. I just go for a booze up with him and order it. Remember that it is freshly cut and needs to be left to dry through the summer. We could go for a booze up with him like.
