I have recently been given "priveledged access" to a Gatwick App that allows me to see not only a minute-by-minute guide to the current state of play, but also what is expected in the next 1/2/4/8/16/24/48/72 hour period. All service providers are expressing little concealed concern that it will stop operations for a significant length of time. Significant being more than 3 hours.
I sent the Paphos bags out at 0620 this morning. It finally took off at 1148. This was because the bowser that was meant to service the waste/water on it had frozen solid and one of the back-ups also wouldn't start. When eventually Flight Care managed to get a working one to attend, the crew of the aircraft had to be changed as they would not be able to complete the sector within their maximum allowable hours. The Berlin EZY8209 recevied its bags at 0720 but didn't depart until nearer 1000 as it had to join the queue for de-icing on the Sierra taxiway "drive-through" de-icing rinks.
These delays were on a sunny (but quite nippy) day. If there is serious snowfall, then this was a mere taster.
And yes, I was wearing shorts today.
