The General Synod
« on: July 03, 2008, 07:26:27 PM »
Ever since I was a child I never really got the hang of this. I hear they're meeting again...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7487805.stm

And no one ever really came up with an explanation of why they refer to themselves as primates  eeek:

Not only me then. I expect much wringing of hands, furrowed brows and ecumenical mysteries.  ::)

Explain this to me; why, when they pray, do they bow their heads and look down to their toes? Strikes me if you've got some almighty being, omniscient and lord above all it might be an idea to look upwards...  rubschin:  Men or mice?

Still, it keeps them off the streets temporarily  confused:

The theory is that one bows one's head as a sign of humility in the presence of He who you worship.

But then you knew that. ::)

And before others join in and the talk turns to "Bearded Pixies in the Sky" etc etc as it has in the past let me make this plain.

I personally have faith. I do believe in God however I have little no time for the trappings of organised religion. I do not wish to argue with anyone who doesn't believe. I can no more prove the existence of God than anyone else can disprove it.

Of course. A decade or more of childhood subjugation is quite thorough when it comes to implanting ideas, but I still enjoy sticking a finger through the perfectly glazed surface of their theological lemon meringue pie  ;)

And with regard to...

No problems at all. After a lifetime's wrestling with theological arguments from all sides I find myself most harmonious with the tenets of the Tao.

And that's tenets not tenants  Angry9:  God, I hate it when people misplace that word... I clearly have a long Way to go...

Chard - Shard  ::)

I've just read that someone might be dangerous with a chard of glass in their hand   eeek:

I hear on the wireless this morning that the women bishops debate is getting heated.

All this bishop-bashing is getting out of hand, there would be a lot less of it if they allowed women in.

The Synod needs to get a tight grip on its bishops if the church is going to get pulled into the 21st century.
I mostly despair
