Anyone want to bet they'll just get a smack on the wrist?

So this poor woman gets shoved onto rail track almost hitting the live rail by 2 animals after she asked the scum to stop smoking? Its good to see that the governments strategy to combat this kind of thing has been so effective.  Angry9:

A woman pushed on to rail tracks by two men she told to stop smoking has said she felt "really lucky" to be alive.

Linda Buchanan, 58, landed inches away from the 750-volt live third rail at Farningham Road station in Kent and suffered a broken wrist.

She told BBC News: "I am still shocked by the whole experience. It could have been a lot worse."

Det Insp Bob Richardson said it appeared she had spoken to the two men about smoking earlier in the week.

He said she walked along the London-bound platform and was pushed onto the line as she passed the men at 0700 BST on Wednesday.

She was taken to hospital and released after treatment, he added.

Det Insp Richardson said: "She was very lucky she was not more seriously injured."

Police were looking into a number of leads and were viewing CCTV from the station, he said.

A statement from rail operator Southeastern said: "This is clearly a serious situation and our concern is for the woman at this time."

Fellow commuters pulled her from the tracks.

Train services between Kent and London were disrupted during the morning rush hour because the power had to be turned off.

One of the men was described as white, in his mid 20s, and about 6ft, with a stocky build. He had short cropped brown hair and was wearing beige shorts, a green round-necked T-shirt and trainers.

The other man was white and in his early 20s with a medium build, bright red shorts and a dark top.

Officers are trying to establish what the men did after the attack.
The universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements. Energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest.

Teach her to keep her anti-smoking opinions to herself. Too much of this sticking your nose into other peoples lives. What harm were they doing having a smoke in the open air anyway? Interferring old bat got what she deserved. Pity it wasn't Harriet Harman.

OK seriously ~ they went too far but she should not have opened her big mouth IMHO. There are uniformed railway officials she could have complained to.

Have to agree. On the train I would say something but in the open air?

Walk by and stand further down the platform.

The question is what did all these rabid anti-smokers do until it became fashionable to complain and bitch about smoking .... which if I recall was only about 15 years ago.

I always hated it, but we used to have to live with it, we used to have a brown corner where my mum used to sit an smoke, well it killed her, so i more against it now, its a personal thing, just something that i could never stand the smell off it so never was tempted to try, out of five of us, only my bro smoked but he give up recently, as with not being able to do it everywhere now does make it easier.

i dont care what people do as long as it dont affect me, like having to breath it or have it my clothes, so thats why it best banished away to the leppers coloney!  point:

But smoking on an open air station platform doesn't really affect anyone else.

it does if other people around and its got a smoking not allowed sign up!
why are most smokers very touchy! my own mum was the worse i tell you...

but the point is its not acceptable to throw people onto live rails just for asking to stop smoking...it could have been a death involved, someones life could have been over because some selfish evil psycho b*******d has been offended!

Perhaps the "selfish evil psycho b*******d" had just finally got p*ssed off with people telling him what he could or could not do with his own life.

Don't get me wrong ~ I gave up smoking donkey's years ago but I do not have any problem with those that wish to smoke, in fact if I am totally honest, I quite envy them what is one of the last rebellions left in this sanitised world that the Nanny State is trying so hard to wrap us all up in.

I have promised myself that should I survive to my 80th birthday I shall celebrate by buying myself 20 Senior Service and smoke the lot. When I told my Doctor this plan he lectured me that even at 80 starting to smoke again would shorten my life  eeek:

He did not answer when I asked him by how much my life would be shortened. Arseh*le!  Banghead

I've never smoked but I have no problem in anyone smoking when I'm not directly affected.

To have 'No Smoking' sign up on an open air station is ludicrous.

Of course the actions of the men were inexcusable, if unfortunately typical of society today, and yes I was playing the devil's advocate.

As for smoking, like I say I don't but when others do it doesn't bother me. When I did smoke and even now that I don't I get really annoyed with people who go through this fanning the air in front of their faces with a hand, book, magazine or something because someone lights up within ten yards of them. Why can they just not walk away if they really believe it will harm them? As for banning smoking in Pubs that is, in my opinion, completely out of order. Those that didn't want to go into a smokers pub had the choice and could go into another. Plenty of Landlords catered for both options with smoking and non-smoking bars and many pubs were totally non-smoking but that wasn't good enough for some. I operated both smokers and non-smokers bars in my pub and the only ones who ever complained about it were non-smokers who objected to "only having one bar for our use" The smokers only had one bar too but they never complained. My response was to install air filters and open the entire pub to smokers.

OK then how's about we go down another route which works in many countries and have tobacco shops, where you can, if you choose, go in, buy a cigarette or cigar, take a chair and sit and have a smoke. Nobody else is involved, the people who work in the shop are smokers as are all the customers. Neat compromise I'd say but to the Nannies of Nulabour that is unacceptable. Why? Because they are on a mission to save us from ourselves.

Strange that the Houses of Parliament, despite being a workplace, still have areas where smoking is permitted. Do as we say not as we do seems to be the message.

Quote
Nick Harvey (Shadow Secretary of State for Defence, Defence; North Devon, Liberal Democrat) | Hansard source

As I said in my reply to Mr. Doran on 20 March 2007, Official Report, column 757W:

"The Health Act 2006 introduces a ban on smoking in workplaces and enclosed or substantially enclosed public places from 1 July 2007. While the Act does not formally apply on the parliamentary estate, the Commission, on the advice of the Administration Committee, has decided that the House should comply with the principles of the legislation, as it is not desirable that those who work on or visit the parliamentary estate should be treated differently in this respect than in other workplaces and public places. The Commission recognises, however, that many who work on the estate are unavoidably present for long periods, particularly when the House is sitting. It is therefore desirable to make reasonable provision for those who wish to smoke to do so, provided that the health and safety of other users of the estate is not adversely affected.

With these principles in mind, the Commission has decided that smoking should cease to be permitted from 1 July 2007 in all internal areas of the House of Commons estate, including in bars and private offices. From that date smoking will, however, be permitted in four designated external areas: the Terrace, Commons Court (North West corner), North Terrace (between Portcullis House and Norman Shaw South), and in a designated area on the west side of Canon Row courtyard. Cigarette receptacles will be provided in these areas. "No Smoking" signs will be displayed at entrances to the buildings. I understand that the House of Lords Administration and Works Committee will report its recommendations shortly on the smoking policy for the Lords part of the Parliamentary Estate."
