And on the BBC News this morning we learn that many of the "Crowds" of cheering spectators at Olympic events are not ticket buying members of the world population but "volunteers" who are being bussed into events where the organisers feel that the crowds are too thin on the ground to look good on TV. Apparently they can be recognised by their "enthusiasm" and matching tee shirts.
Let's be honest with ourselves here shall we. The Olympic Ideal is dead and buried. The Opening Ceremony shown on TV around the world by a single feed provided by China (no independent cameras at all) was, to be charitable, dressed up to appear more spectacular than the reality. The spectators at many events are not the sports enthusiasts they seem to be but co-opted members of the most oppressive and regimented regime on the face of the earth doing what they are being ordered to do and no doubt time will reveal once again that many of the competitors are performing to "enhanced" levels that have thus far escaped detection.
Yes I am cynical about the whole charade that a once proud ideal has become. Such a shame because I used to be a keen amateur sportsman myself, competing at various levels (mainly inter-service) in Boxing, Fencing and Rugby whilst serving with the RAF. Of course in those far off days we had a ciggy at half time and drank a lot of lager to "make the weight" when necessary so I suppose we were also "drug assisted".
