What symptoms is he presenting?

Uncomfortable pressure, fullness, squeezing or pain in the center of the chest lasting more than a few minutes.

Pain spreading to the shoulders, neck or arms.

Chest discomfort with lightheadedness, fainting, sweating, nausea or shortness of breath.

Anxiety, nervousness and/or cold, sweaty skin.

Paleness or pallor.

Increased or irregular heart rate.

Feeling of impending doom

To be honest I wish I hadn't looked.  eeek:

Surely as a friend of Nick's he's always going to have a feeling of impending doom?

If you are showing more than 2 of those symptoms then I'd recommend seeing a doctor Nick asap.

Don't chance it.

I didn't recognise the first attack.
The second was 3 months later and very mild, slight pain in chest and pain that moved slowly down my arm, no sweatong or palpitations etc.. By the time I got to A+E, I had no real symptoms, ECG, pulse etc all normal. Only blood test confirmed attack and that was 12 hours.

If in doubt call paramedics straight away.

Speaking as someone who has had five heart attacks ~ none fatal ~ I can assure you that you will know when you are having one. If you simply keel over chances are you have suffered Cardiac Arrest and most times that is fatal. Apart from the initial pain and feeling very dizzy you will feel nothing else.
A growing tightness in the chest, slight breathlessness and a feeling of being unwell followed possibly by chest pain  and pain in one or both arms(Angina) possibly means a heart attack. As a smoker, who is overweight (don't deny it you are), in his fifties and who lives a fairly stressful life whilst failing to take minmum exercise (At least 30 minutes of brisk walking x 3 daily) you are at risk so any chest pain should be referred to your GP. Heartburn or indigestion pain travels along the same nerve path to the brain and as such is indistinguishable from angina pectoris and MI (heart attack).
The best way I can describe the symptoms that tell me I am having a heart attack is to liken it to when they take your blood pressure. As they inflate the cuff around your arm you feel a slight pain and some pressure, then a slight numbness in your hand. That same feeling in either arm or in my chest and I dial 999.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

Typically, it is completely different for a woman!

I appreciate this is a serious subject, but adding the 'none fatal' might be described as tautology my old dog. ;)

Strictly speaking you are right but then again since defibrillation was used five times to get my heart beating again on a Paris side street in 1998 it could be argued that one MI at least was as close to fatal as it is possible to get without going all the way.

OK, but there aren't really degrees of fatality any more than degrees of uniqueness.

Well done the frogs anyway. ;D
