Council numpties #457
« on: September 08, 2008, 09:53:57 AM »
I am piss boilingly angry.

We are presently going through the process of arranging the Boy's Secondary School.

The process assumes we will prefer our local "High" school. We have selected a nearby Grammar School as our first choice (acorss the county boundary - so one can expect trouble)

He has a Statement of Special Needs to Level 4 (Level 5 being the highest).

We fill in the forms.

I get a call.

Her: Mr Nick?
Me: Yes
Her: I see you have put The Boy down for a Grammar School
Me: Yes
Her: But he has a Special Needs Statement
Me: Yes
Her: He will have to take the 11+. Would he be up to that (patronising tone)
Me: Yes. On his current test papers he consistently gets 100% in half the allowed time.
Her: But's he's SEN
Me: Have you read his statement?
Her: Well, um, of course  (char048). Are you sure he shouldn't be going to a Special School?
Me: Yes.QUite sure. Is there a problem?
Her: I will have to call you back, I think.

Similarly I get asked "where is your wheelchair?" because I am registered disabled.

At that level local authorities do not employ people capable of lateral thought Nick ~ you should know that. She will need to read the rules several times and then refer the matter upwards before you get anything approaching common sense out of them. One thing you can be sure of ~ you and The Boy will be the subject of much debate around the coffee machine in that office today ~ prolly for the rest of the week in fact.

We have already met the head of the local Grammar (as previously reported). He, The Boy, that is, will pass his 11+ next month.

We can afford to disregard these idiots, but I shall have some fun confusing them in the meantime  eveilgrin:

The trouble is those idiots all have to put in their 'five pennies worth' to justify their salaries.

Quite so, Uncle, quite so.

I have asked to talk to her Boss  eveilgrin:

His previous Headteacher  refused to apply for a Statement on the grounds that he was "too bright". This proved her own stupidity, since SEN status is not intelligence related (despite the popular image of window lickers ona  SUnshine Coach).

We managed to get it as a Parental APplication in a record time!

Also a job in the probation service. Just admin stuff but with any luck I will be able to sneer at lowlife scumbags.  happy088

As long as you have no plans to wear a cap and issue parking fines it's OK with me.
