XL
« on: September 14, 2008, 06:17:26 AM »
The one thing I can’t understand from this XL debacle is the necessity to charter spare aircraft to rescue their customers…?

XL clearly had aircraft in the right place, with crews ready to go and bring the passengers home… Why doesn’t the CAA ‘rescue plan’ involve retaining the services of the aircraft (leased anyway) and crews for say two weeks after the business goes bust?

Okay, so service from the trolley dollies might not be perfect on their last flight but at least they would have had two weeks more employment than their office-based colleagues…

LL had a five hour delay at Pafos... reason?

All the aircrew had been flying around in 'spare' planes (no doubt at premium rates) picking up XL customers - what a complete, utter farce...  noooo:

I'm sure that means something to someone but ...............   noooo:

Meanwhile the reason for using chartered flights is that the XL planes have, in the main, been impounded by airport authorities under writs issued by various fuel suppliers. It will take weeks if not months of legal wrangling to get what are essentially rented aircraft returned to their rightful owners but, for the moment, they are deemed to be the property of XL who owe money and will therefore remain impounded until due legal process establishes rightful ownership. It is usual procedure and if nothing else should send the message to travellers that you take a risk of losing out if you book "deals" that are clearly to good to be true. Anyone with an atom of sense would have seen this coming to XL and many other cheapo holiday companies.

Thank goodness for that. I heard the item on the wireless as well and was quite horrified.

Given Bruce has an evil sense of humour l'd half expect to hear he was belting out Tailgunner &Aces High over the intercom
