Minor irritations that build up overtime
« on: September 22, 2008, 08:13:19 AM »
Sat on the bog this morning I noticed yet again that the hand towel that serve the bathroom is looped through its attractive holder on the wall furthest away from the basin. This caused me a feeling of intense anger ~ only for a moment or two but it really annoyed me. I have lived with this since we moved here almost 8 years ago and the anger increases daily. What really sends my blood pressure up is that fact that I cannot move the damned thing because the entire bathroom is tiled, floor to ceiling, on all walls. I tried to move the towel holder when we moved here and found that it had been affixed to the wall by means of two holes drilled through the centre of an unmatchable tile. Taking it down would not be a problem but what to do with the two holes? Bit of filler was my answer but that idea did not sit well with the kitchen staff. Then, of course, had I continued with the removal in the face of such objections there would have been TROUBLE. I could have faced that down in a manly fashion but the thought struck that I would also need to drill holes in another irreplaceable tile adjacent to the basin. Now as we all know drilling holes through tiles is fraught with danger. 9 time out of 10 we can do it but when you cannot replace the tile you are drilling sod's law says it is going to crack.
Why not simply put the towel where it should be by means of a stick-on holder and leave the existing holder where it is? Well I tried that, firstly the stick on holder would not stay stuck BUT more importantly my morning ten minutes of solitude, sat on the bog whilst contemplating the day ahead, were ruined by the sight of the empty towel ring mocking me from the far side of the room. Matters were further complicated by SWMBO taking a dislike to my stick on holder (She may even have resorted to sabotage) on the unreasonable (to me at least) grounds that it did not match the existing and now empty towel ring which was part of a matching set that included a bog roll holder and shower "caddy" ~ all fixed through the tiles  Banghead

The solution I came up with today ~ and remember that this is a conversation we have often here ~ was sell the house and move ............... was vetoed by SWMBO as "Silly in the extreme".

Am I being unreasonable?

Doctor: "Now then, what is the matter with you?"

Patient: "I think I have CDO"

Doctor: "I'm sorry, what is that?"

Patient: "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder"

Doctor: "That's OCD"

Patient: "But then the letters are in the wrong order"
I mostly despair

Reomving five screws (of 6) easily from the back of a radio and then finding that the sixth is corroded into place and finishing the job with a hammer  cussing:

I had a vision of a toddler with a revolver for a moment  scared2:

I hope it was a battery-only radio.

Snoops - what about demolishing the whole house and starting again. That way you will be compliant with Mrs S wishes but also putting some form of order back in your world  lol:

rubschin: Planning consents, costs of rebuilding, where to live in the meantime ......... Don't think I am saying no to your idea but how to overcome those trials and tribulations?

Insurance claim would cover all that if house demolished by accident ..... Now who do I know?

NICK! and bring the Boy ~ I have a little job for you.

Mrs Nick will, unerringly, find the screws the very next time she walks barefoot on the carpet. Until then they will remain lost. Meanwhile if your fingers are stuck together you will not be able to have ciggie without risking an incendiary incident.
