But technically a man who tosses salad would be a salad tosser. The device pictured above Darwin's innocent enquiry is in fact a salad spinner ~ designed to remove the water from washed salad leaves. Personally I use a clean tea towel, as do most chefs, in which one wraps the leaves, holds the four corners of the towel and whirls it about one's head ~ this operation is best performed in the garden as wives tend to get a little piqued if you do it in the kitchen. If in further doubt ask LL the difference between a tosser and a spinner ~ I'm sure she will have a view on the subject.
