Those adverts bug the hell out of me, the idea that by buying a pirate dvd I fund the drugs trade just seems ludicrous. If you cant make money selling heroin and cocaine then you aren't going to manage it with dodgy knock off films.

The majority of people who watch pirated films are file sharers anyway. Look on the average torrent site and you will see hundreds of films, many not even out in the cinema yet. Criminals dont make any money out of that because they are free downloads. Its the same with software and music cd's
Agreed...

Fact is if they didn't charge £15 for a 50p product people wouldn't bother buying pirated copies anyway...  noooo:

Let's laugh at the funny foreign names shall we?  ::)

If I may briefly don the mantle of a moderately educated bak-gwei, I should point out that this story was originally floated in April 2008 and somewhat discredited at the time.

The fact that the Independent has dug it up again six months later does not in any way reduce the possibility of it being a hoax.

Ah-Hua is predominantly a girls name.

There was no other record of a 'Dong Bi' gang, although in Oriental street markets, traders often shout "Dong buy, it fake" to Westerners looking at their competitors goods.

Dong-Bi is also the name of a town in the Fuqing region, and the source of many amusing postcards from travellers, rivalling Phuket it is said.

I have no problem with a chuckle at foreign names either. Mrs DS(#3) has a name which sounds like 'sewer' in Indonesian.

Loads of pirate DVD's here in sunny CY!

Most markets have a number of stalls selling them openly.  Is it wrong? whistle:

(I'll bet BM isn't averse to a few 'under the table' movies!) 8)

I've actually avoided pirate movies due to the poor quality - nothing worse than getting 90% of the way through a film and finding that it stops working...

So, I have a collection of 450+ genuine DVDs... I just don't see why I should then be forced to watch advertising and the other shite on them...  noooo:

Last night we watched Philadelphia... Great movie, great soundtrack and no bastard adverts or sob stories about AIDS.  cloud9:

Indeed it should ~ may I respectfully ask that you write it on a post-it note and stick it on the top of your screen.

Well ~ as I said in an earlier post. Most movies get to be on TV within a couple of months of their release these days so I invested in a DVD recorder and can record any that take our fancy. DVD recorders have dropped so much in price in the past couple of years that it seemed a cheaper option and since video recorders are now so hard to replace, with few shops selling them, it made sense to me.

Ah... but I have a cinema so recording off the telly is not an option...  whistle:
