Quote from: Uncle Mort on October 27, 2008, 10:48:13 AMI never give to people doing charity fun runs, cycling up Snowdon, Offas Dyke, 1000 mile offroad bike challenges through Africa or whatever. If you want to have fun then do so, just don't pretend it's for charity. How much do these things cost to do anyway? I'd guess sometimes more than is raised for the 'good' cause. end of 'Bah Humbug' momentYour choice, and as a matter of clarification, everything I did was NOT in pretence of doing it for charity. It was MY way of doing something for a dear and young freind who died of cancer at the age of 34, raising money ( without the help of some 'fund raising organisation' )for the local hospice and The Samaritans who my dad worked for voluntarily until he died at the age of 78.I don't want any plaudits and pats on the back, I'm just proud that I found a way of raising money in a way that I was comfortable with rather than just chucking a few quid in a rattling tin.

Quote from: Bar Wench on October 27, 2008, 10:53:00 AMGiven that my cousin recently did a bike ride to Amsterdam for help the aged and had to raise something like £2000 before she was even allowed to participate one does have to wonder. But where did she start from?

The whole family was tapped for cash this time around. I put a fiver in the pot to shut them all up and was called back asking if I would please put more in!
I bought a poppy in Brum yesterday. Then I went outside and it blew away
