Technically, I agree. But how come this sort of material passed the compliance forms?
I reckon the producer will be out of work by the weekend.

Hmmm.... it's the controller of R2 who's decided to fall on her sword. What about the producer responsible?

I don't have much time for Ross or Brand.

The point is simply thus :- What they did was a criminal act and as such they should be prosecuted under the laws of the land.  I don't care how much they earn and I don't care what the fallout at the Beeb will be. Whether it was broadcast or not is a matter for the producer to defend (hopelessly) but the fact that they made the calls is unassailable.

They are gulilty. If I - when I was working - were to get a crimnal conviction then I would be sacked. The same should apply, regardless of pay scale. Or populist opinion.

It's not as simple as that.

The call(s) weren't intended as malicious, the odd f-word doesn't make it particularly obscene and there was no slander or lies. I cannot see a case being made.

I wonder tho what would have happened if an 'ordinary' tax paying member of the public had made the same call to a celeb...? I'm guessing that they would have at least been investigated by plod if not spent some time in jail...

It seems that celebs are immune from conviction... they can openly take Class A drugs while 'ordinary' proles are arrested on TV (road wars, etc.) for smoking a joint...  noooo:

With hindsight Gary Glitter must wish that he'd released record every now and again thus ensuring immunity from prosecution...

At the end of the Road Wars type programmes they run through what happened to those proles. Most seem to get away with it as well.
