So how is the decorating coming along? And since your kitchen is broken what are you going to eat tonight?
LL has started supper early in case I can't fix the lights!  evil:

Mind you it is some dish the she doesn't have the primary ingredient for...  noooo:

What colours are the live wires...?  rubschin:

Brown ~ because if you touch one chances are you'll sh*t yourself.

It took the EC to come up with that idea. Before they interferred they were red.

 noooo: Red 'n Black  noooo:

You're still on red and black eh? Then in theory the red should be live and the black neutral ~ but don't blame me if some dodgy Cypriot sparks put them in the other way round.

It doesn't really matter with lights ~ as long as there is one of each and you switch off at the mains before you start.

There is no right or wrong way to fit a bulb ~ so long as the current flows in and out again it will work therefore it makes no difference which wire is on which side of the connection ~ what this may do to the rest of your lighting circuit is another matter. whistle:

Seriously~ so long as there is one wire of each colour connected to the light fitting what does it matter. If your fittings have an earth that will of course need to be connected to the correct point.

DS will, of course, confirm that the right way to fit a bulb is with the root pointing downward (although some corms need to be planted on their sides to prevent water retention and subsequent rot setting in ~ anemones for example)

I never trust the light switch alone. If I am playing with mains cables I switch off at the fuse box or at least remove the fuse to the lighting circuit. I have had my hair stood on end too many times because of (i) faulty switches and (ii) People who think they have switched it the damned dimmer off when in fact they have only turned it down.

NB
Quote
Unlike the ring power circuit, the lighting circuit does not form a loop returning to the consumer unit. The consumer unit is normally connected to the first lamp, which in turn is connected to the second lamp and so on.

The cable used is a 1sq mm PVC twin core and earth rated for up to 12 amps. It consists of a red insulated core for live, black insulated core for neutral with a bare earth conductor between them. The three conductors are laid side by side within a PVC sheath. When connecting the cable, the exposed earth connector must be covered with a sleeve coloured yellow and green (to denote that it's an earth).

The lighting cable is routed from the consumer unit to a series of lighting points for ceiling roses or wall light fittings. The power to each lamp is connected via a wall or ceiling mounted switch. Some light units incorporate their own switch, for these fittings, the power circuit is then connected directly to the fitting.

Which I think proves my point about it not mattering which colour goes where.
