Failing that, define tits up. What exactly happens when you try to use it?

No  redface:

Please don't wind me up. In all seriousness how do I do these things because I should probably do them for mine.

I can't believe that the second I get a new laptop his breaks and I am going to be forced to share.  sad24:

No discs for the old one no. Someone had it before us and they handed it on with nothing.  Banghead

For mine, I have some stuff, no idea what though. I was so excited I didn't really pay attention.  redface:

Ok if its an older laptop that someone had before it could be that the hard disk is knackered. If you look on Ebay for a USB enclosure you can slot the hard disk into that and attach it to your laptop to test it. If it works fine then back up all the information Mr Wench wants to keep.

If it does turn out that the hard disk has done then you should be able to pick up a replacement easily enough and for much less than a new laptop. Try sites like BigPockets or Ebuyer. You would just need to reinstall the OS.
