All this talk reminds me of a time when I was interrogated at the American Embassy in Grosvenor Square. It was about the time of Watergate and I was applying for a visa to go to the US for the summer. Normal form filling until they decided to "ask" me to an interview  eeek:
Interminable questions... much beady eyed staring from officials and uniformed guards... more questions...
I really thought it was going to be just a formality, but no. After about half an hour I felt like saying forget it but eventually the visa was granted.
That's what you got for going on a demo and knowing someone who'd joined the Communist Party  noooo:
