Celebrity Death round up:

Richard Hickox 60

Clive Barnes 81

Mitch Mitchell 61

Jack Scott 85

Sir Nicholas Redmayne, Bt 80

Major-General Donald Isles  84

Julian Chrysostomides 81

Nick Mills 54

Jorn Utzon  90

Dudley Savage 88

Andreas Liveras  73

Robert Wade 87

How many of those are celebrities?

I've only ever heard of Mitch Mitchell and Jack Scott to be honest

As I'm at work I can't check my card, so depending on results, I may withdraw my question later

I think we have accepted that Celebrity can mean different things to different people. All those on the list have achieved a recognition in their particular field sufficient to merit an obit in one of the quality papers. If we are to confine ourselves to Media Celebs then people will start arguing that their recently departed local TV weather presenter, who used to appear on a Thursday night for two minutes, is a celeb because (i) they were on TV and (ii) they once opened a garden fete at the local cat 'n' dog home.
And of course you have three of them...  whistle:

Who? Me or JOM?

'Smeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Am I winning huh? Am I? Huh? Huh?
No...

Joint leaders with four each are Wenchy, LL and Pastis...

The Lord Rees, who died on Sunday aged 81, was, as Peter Rees, a canny tax barrister who became a useful if controversial member of Margaret Thatcher's government, serving for two years in her Cabinet as Chief Secretary to the Treasury. Later he made a successful career in business. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/3543440/Lord-Rees.html

Rob Partridge, who died on November 26 aged 60, was a former journalist who turned to public relations and built a glittering career working with some of the most creative talents in pop and rock music, including U2, Bob Marley, Tom Waits and Marianne Faithfull. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/3543439/Rob-Partridge.html

Jonathan Bates, who has died aged 68, was the most highly regarded film sound editors of his generation. With an unmatched reputation for producing imaginative and complex soundtracks, he was constantly in demand by directors including Roman Polanski, Otto Preminger, Lewis Gilbert and, most significantly, Richard Attenborough. He was renowned for his painstaking and unswerving dedication to his work, his unflappability, his generosity and his ability to work good-humouredly, often under very great pressure. But you are also right in that those Gruaniad obits predate the game. I knew I shouldn't trust that fvcking paper when I Googled Guardian Latest Obits.

It seems that Jonathon Bates died on October 31st but the Guardian only just noticed.
