Not to be confused with Iced Gems ~ a toothbreaking confection if ever I found one

I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

WELL! I'm certainly glad we've cleared that up ~ anywhoo back to Woolies ~ "Snake" Belts, beloved of all school boys. I had a hell of a job finding these for my two. Woolies told me they no longer stock them AND that, in a nutshell, is what has gone wrong with Woolies.

Snake belts...  cloud9:

Great weren't they and part of most school uniforms, in the right colours of course, when I was a boy.
Parents loved them too as being (i) elastic and (ii) adjustable they fitted any kid from 4 to 15 so, as long as you didn't lose it, one belt took you right through junior school and with a change of colour the next took you through to school leaving age. The sample shown is in my old school colours.

The Crimea was as close as I could get to the yellow and blue of the snake belt in the picture.

Mine was only a general service with a South Arabia clasp. They handed them out to everyone who did more than 30 days in Aden during the trouble there. Most of us refuse to wear it in protest at the way they were issued to us by Wilson's Government who pulled us out to save money. Typical Labour  "Let's treat the troops like sh*t".
I have no idea where the medal went ~  think my first wife had it.

Those belts, both the originals and the remakes cost a fortune now as they are a "vintage" item.  ::)
