The universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements. Energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest.

I assumed it was some modern, young folks thing but if you don't know. . .

Particularly as it appears to be comestible, which is your specialist subject.

Well it isn't a cake. And why would you stick things in an orange? I assumed it was some sort of religious thing.

What on earth is that supposed to be?!?!?

It is obviously a lady vicar type.
Now do you know about Christingle? ~ a Scandanavian Tradition in which children are given oranges, pierced with cloves and with a candle in the top. At the Christingle service the candles are lit and carols sung.
This tradition has been imported by the CoE via the USA (where else ::)) and is growing in popularity in the more "go ahead" churches in the UK.
So the Vicarette has dressed herself up to resemble the childrens gift. All very happy clappy and right on.

Look at my suggested caption which actually encapsulated most of that explanation. Alternatively Google Christingle.

Strikes me that some around here could do with going to Church occasionally.

Your original posting was so full of punnery that I couldn't get a handle on it.  redface: I also don't do religion.  redface:

Nope, I went to international schools from the age of five, where the basic idea is no religion of any sort as there are too many to be all inclusive. This meant, no nativity plays, no carols, no prayers, no harvest festival no nothing of any sort. So my religious education was somewhat lacking.

Fair'nuff ~ anyway now you can talk knowlegably with Mr Wench about such things as schools are getting into this in a big way. Primary School Children clutching squished oranges and candles abound in the last week of term. They also bring home mountains of pictures as teachers have a clear out of all the "Art work" so that they can start January with cleared classroom walls.
We spend most of January discreetly disposing of such items.
