TBH, and I know this goes against the grain with most 'opera buffs', composers have their crests and troughs like any creative artist. Where opera is concerned I've sat through enough hours of connective mediochrity waiting for the heart rending aria to know the difference for my self, and I do realise it is for my, subjective enjoyment....  Shrugs:

I used to be against the idea of creaming the best bits but, for me ... now, they are the best bits and I'm more than happy to forego the rest. That said, if offered a ticket to CG like I have been for something exceptional, I'd leap at it  cloud9:

Lakme is a great opera but I'd admit the ad got me to discover the rest.

On another note, I visited 'Puccini lake' when I was on my recent cruise. Saw his house. They hold a festival there and they have a very nice open air stage at the lake's edge. Must be great to attend. Something that cannot be done very easily in the UK.

TBH I prefer those CDs that play the bits and pieces and save me all the tedious in betweens. Lesley Garrett is a particular favourite and I hate to admit that Charlotte Church has her moments. CC's rendition of Welsh Rugby favourites (Cwm Rhonda and the like) takes some beating.

But then you don't want to be in my car when Elvis is giving his all to The American Trilogy. Fair makes yer ears bleed!

That Katherine Jenkins has demonstrated her talents a few times as well, isn't it..

That Charlotte Church has her knockers, but I don't think she's all that bad to be honest ;-)
