Past Times and Peacocks both went into administration yesterday. Each time I go into town I see more and more closed shops, sadly this isn't going to stop soon is it?

If all you lazy bastards stop using the supermarkets and ackchewly supported the high street it would be doing 100 times better.

A gift shop and a crap clothing shop ?  Not high on my list of purchases at the supermarket I have to say ?

Most of these companies are based on debt and capital investment owners who were looking for a quick profit. They got caught and are now paying the price - unfortunately the employees come off worse.
My old company went into under in December and have been totally abandoned by their German owners (also in admin). Provisions (24M)  made in Germany (6000 employees) for payouts/compensation but nothing for the UK.
Allianz to blame for this - again looking to make a fast buck and have instead got totally burned.

Der!!  The reason the high street is f**ked is because of the supermarket and the out of town retail parks. People stopped using the high street because it was easier to shop under one roof, and now the only shops that are able to take high street locations are the subsidised charity shops, takeaways and gastro pubs. Gone are the greengrocers, butchers etc. who not only gave good service but supplied locally scourced goods. Now people don't want good service and they will buy any old crap from anywhere in the world as long as it is cheap. The supermarkets and big chains supply that. A good example is the furniture shop that sells crap furniture, imported from China and give you four years to pay for it. You are buying a finance deal, not good quality furniture.

Nobody forced people to use out-of-town retail parks - if they were shite nobody would.

I'd suggest the reason 'out-of-town' shopping is so popular is that 'in town' shopping became shite. You couldn't park or if you could park it was expensive... Dirty, smelly chav-filled places with charidee collectors sticking their tins under your nose every few feet....

Also , if the High Street shops were truly independant and different then more would be utilised. Although supermarkets are massive conglomerates most shops on the High Street these days are just smaller versions.
