Given the choice people (me included) prefer to drive there, park for free, buy their stuff, wheel the trolley back to the car and drive off...

Exactly ~ hassle free shopping

Hassle Free!! Supermarkets?? Do me a favour. Long queues at the checkout, screaming kids and old people who stop for no reason, you must be joking. Banghead

They also shop in the high street .........with 1 checkout........ rubschin:

Life is too short for shopping ~ I get it delivered. OK it costs £3 or so per delivery but I save that in fuel.
Do the sums ~ My home to nearest ASDA is 5 miles each way. 2 x litres of diesel costs £2.80.
It's a no brainer as far as I am concerned.

Yes I would use local shops in the High Street if any still existed but for what? I cannot buy a suit locally. I'd need to go to Manchester or Liverpool so I get mine from a tailor in Hong Kong (he has my measurements and I simply order the cloth I want). Two weeks and I have a made to measure suit for around £250. Shirts come from Jermyn Street by post. Jeans come from Peter Christian by courier, Books from Amazon by post, stationery comes from wholesalers in Dorset by free courier (I fell out with Viking Direct) Wine and beer are also delivered to the door. Haven't bought any shoes in years and probably won't ever need to again. Local cobbler does repairs as necessary but that is hardly shopping.

I have no need nor desire to fight my way round shops.

Farmers and Local Markets we do use when abroad or on holiday in Dorset but they do not exist in North Wales ... Nearest is a 40 mile round trip and involves park & ride to reach it.

And if we are harking back to days of yore ~ well the butchers, bakers, fishmongers etc used to deliver when I wuz a nipper so really I am only doing what me Mum did except she used to telephone her order in and a boy would appear on a bike with it. I use the www and a van arrives with the groceries.  Shrugs:

If the wimmin want to trudge round shops trying on clothes and hats let 'em if it makes them happy ~ just don't ask me to go.

OK I do occasionally go to MAKRO where I can buy bulk items wholesale and I do use the local creamery for butter and cheese but only because it is en route to and from my printers workshop.

I even buy me baccy from Oz via the www
