Using Credit Cards Abroad
« on: January 18, 2009, 01:28:35 PM »
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7834798.stm

Apparently now that a huge amount of credit card fraud is occurring abroad HSBC have stated that they will be analysing use of cards abroad and if they decide this use is unusual they will decline the transaction. Obviously the definition of unusual - anything not in Britain  ::)

They expect you to notify the bank when you will be travelling abroad (that's a database that your organised gang of burgulars will be hacking into within seconds  noooo:) and advise you to take back up cash / travellers cheques and other cards etc. Someone else you need to report to if you want to go to another country

Even those customers that have notified their bank of where they were going have had problems because of course banks are well known for responding quickly to your enquiries (assessed in working days only   evil:) and  when you ring you will not be left on hold for ages at exorbitent charges from your mobile phone company thatsit:

Indeed, but so full of contradictions. In spite of the  noooo: on alcohol, last time I was there I found that the agent had managed to place 2 six packs of Heineken and a litre of Chivas Regal in the mini bar  eeek:

Is your room ok? he asked with a unavoidable  ;)

Once had a debit card swallowed by an ATM in Tunisia. Apart from that one incident no problems.

When checking out of the hotel in Egypt last year the chap in front of me had both his cards declined. He was not a happy bunny.

Now we know how you make your friends.

Don't you just hate that! We (Me + Wife and her friend + another mate of mine from RAF days) got chatting to a guy in a German Bar. We were pretty well known in the bar as we went across to stay with RAF mate frequently and it was his "local" and had been mine when stationed out there before I left the RAF. Anyway for some reason, I am still not sure why, wife (#1) gave this guy our address with the usual "If ever you are in England do call us and we'll have a drink together"
14 months later the bastard appeared on our doorstep at 1 in the morning ~ he stayed for two weeks  eeek:
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.
