I have remotely logged into to my pc at work from my laptop. So I have a window open that opens onto my pc and I could work it from here. Much easier. However, I can't answer the phone or make tea remotely.
Like wot I said then...  ::)

I'm no wiser.  noooo:
VPN is Virtual Private Networking...

It allows you to connect to your office network via the Intermong... all secure like but it is as if you were connected in the office...

Mind you, as Wenchy is supposed to be answering the phone I'm not sure how this would help...  noooo:

We 'have' to work at least 1 day a week at home - new Clown school policy to free up office space. We have laptops , VPN and have also been given mobiles that act as landlines which confuses the hell out of the public when they ring a landline number and you're on a bus and it's amazing how many times the signal is too bad to hear  whistle:

Phones can be diverted but when my last employer tried that it always rang when I was on the bog.

As for the tea making ~ I never suffered from a shortage of tea when working at home. lol:

The biggest (serious for a moment) problem was (and I suspect still is) that most employers (managers) are control freaks who cannot stand the thought that you are out of their sight and thus out of their control.
Despite a senior rank and more service than most whenever I was out of the office my MD would find "reasons" to call me to find out "How the figures look today" or "Who is it you are meeting today" or "You looked a bit down last night in the pub ~ everything OK?" Pure control freakery!
Now remember that my job was as a sales manager thus my task was to go out and seek clients, talk to them, assess their needs, design and present costed solutions for those needs at a profit to my employer so it was annoying to say the least to be pursued around the country by this maniac who wanted to know where I was every minute of the day.
In the end, whenever he was out of the office and I or one of my colleagues was in we took to ringing him asking the most inane questions about company policy and the like. He never did get the message and in fact our scheme backfired as he became even more convinced of his own indispensibility. Eventually the board got shot of him and we got a better MD who understood that if left alone we worked better and produced results ~ after all no salesman is of any more value than the profit on his last sale.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

I was trying to explain it so that the masses understood!

I could get used to this working from home thing.

happy088 The only office I go to, or have been to, for years is a client's when taking a brief. I usually quite enjoy it, it's quite an eye opener  eeek:  ;D

Then self employment is for you!  ;D

Many of us do it you know ~ and it is most satisfying to be able to work when you want, how you want, doing what you like. Tho' technically retired and in receipt of pension etc I do voluntary work (mainly fund raising for charities), write a bit, edit the community magazine, play on here, the odd bit of consultancy (mainly writing reports and stuff like that these days) but I can be choosey when and how I do it all.
No pay of course ~ just expenses   ;)

Friend of mine (lives across the road) chooses to work "California Hours" as much of his dialogue with clients is transatlantic so at 3am his office (back bedroom) lights are blazing and all his emails to me are timed in the wee small hours. At about 6am he goes for a walk, has something to eat and falls into bed, rising mid afternoon to do the housework (he has a disabled wife) and watch some TV. He starts work at about 11pm. Sometimes he works like blazes for a straight 24 or even 36 hours and then takes a few days off. He is in software design.
