Another Indirect Tax
« on: February 18, 2009, 06:54:12 AM »
Bastards  cussing:

I heard about this last week and have now had it confirmed in a works e-mail

Quote
All UK photocard driving licences need to be updated every 10 years.

The photograph on the licence is only valid for 10 years, therefore the driving licence and photo needs to be updated accordingly. Drivers will not need to retake a driving test but will of course need to submit a new photo of how they currently look.

... Renewal is necessary to avoid a £1000 fine.

... The paper part of the licence however does not contain an expiry until the holders 70th Birthday.

... It now appears that there will be a charge of £17.50 for the update, this will affect some 300,000 motorists between July 2008 and April 2009.

... Photocard licences replaced the traditional paper licences, which do not have to be renewed until the holders 70th birthday.

... Advice has been received from the DVLA and the Association of British Insurers that failure to update the photocard could invalidate the insurance cover.

No doubt when the ID card comes in, we'll have to replace that every five minutes and pay for the privilege too

Out of curiosity UM, did you try to get the points taken off?  I'm currently carrying three and paid sixty quid for the privilege and I noted that wanted another £17.50 to take the points off  ::)

No, I figure if and when I update my licence then they will be deleted.

Mine doesn't need updating until July '12. So it seems if I wanted to show a 'clean' licence by Christmas this year I'd have to pay for it ...  evil:

I refuse point blank to get an ID card or pay the fine for not having one.

Personally I don't think that Ronnie Biggs should have ever been put in there.

There are no spare spaces for murderers, rapists, robbers, burglars, drug dealers, vandals or politicians but you may be sure they have some reserved for evil ID card avoiders like you.
