Only if you don't bugger up your online order Nick.  point:

Can he never be sort of acclimatised to eggs? Will he grow out of it? They are bloody hard to avoid, especially when Mrs Nick is doing the hurling  scared2:

Apparently he cannot be desensitised to either the egg or the nut allergy.
The claim is that 95% of children grow out of the egg allergy by the time they are 7. Since he is 8 the question is this ..... is he a "slow grower out of it" or one of the 5%.

He is tested annually in the hope that he will grow out of it but the nut allergy is with him for life and you would be amazed at what contains some form of nut byproduct (Palm oil at your local emporium to make their icecream smooth for example).

It's not so bad when we are cooking and we know what to look for on labels when shopping but eating out can be a nightmare ~ especially at relatives houses as they have no fecking idea what they are using when cooking. They are, however, now getting used to Mrs S#2 demanding their recipes and me rootling through their cupboards, checking labels etc.

Strangely McDonald's are one of the places that are totally aware of what is in every one of their products and only too happy to tell us. Nothing they make other than an Egg McMuffin or scrambled egg would hurt him.

Of course the nut allergy is the big worry. Neither his mother nor I can now eat peanuts in case we touch him or kiss him afterwards. The reaction is that sensitive and so quick. Sis in Law (an untidy slattern at the best of times) dropped some cashew nuts at MiL's house and failed to pick them all up. Minimus, visiting a week later, saw one and picked it up and put it in the bin. Instant reaction, rash, vomit etc. Had it been a peanut or walnut no doubt anafilaxia would have ensured with resultant injections to be administered by one of us (we carry the equipment at all times) and then all off to the local A&E. And the Sis in Law ~ unrepentant "Well you can't blame me for things your child picks up" ~ I nearly slapped her.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

Wasn't there something in the news recently about nut allergies and a "cure"? There was a child very much like Minimus by the sounds of it who was basically sitting there eating peanuts.

Yes and no.
Some doctors in (I think) Canada have come up with a treatment that involves using peanut flour in minute (very small indeed) quantities over a period of time to get the child's immune system to accept it. The trial I read about involved 7 children over a five year period. 5 of the children can now tolerate small amounts of peanuts ~ one, they claimed, had eaten 3 peanuts in a single day without ill effects.
Still a long way from a peanut butter sandwich I fear.

What makes it worse is that he appears to be allergic to all nuts and, as any fule know, peanuts ain't actually nuts at all.

So we have to look out for Walnut Oil in foods, Sesame Oil in Chinese food (we have about given up on Chinese food now) and so it goes on.

Yes, I recall the discussion in the ice cream shop  noooo:

It must be very tough. There are eggs in pasta FFS, so I assume that's out

Not in dried pasta there isn't and he eats it by the ton. Loves noodles too but egg noodles are out.
Potato flour is the basis of egg substitute and that is what many manufacturers use ~ you just have to find it in the E numbers etc.
Another curiousity is that if you make custard from first principles you use egg yolks ~ Birds custard powder contains no eggs so he can have custard made from that but not made properly.
A farmer friend claims that quail eggs do not cause a reaction in egg allergic people ~ we have yet to try that theory.

I'm considering this one

http://www.tesco.com/superstore/recipes/product.aspx?R=518

Why do they have to put calories per slice on the website - it is a cake recipe !!!
No one wants to know - we are happy just knowing it is bad for us  cry:
