Surely not a better experience than taking your girl to the flicks, going in when it was light and coming out into the darkness, walking along with a shared bag of chips. A snog and chip-greasy fingers in her bra, then the walk home with your balls aching ~ come on BM, have you forgotten all that?

Of course it is better if you are that bothered about the picture quality, the sound reproduction etc and especially if you are one of those who likes to interject with comments to the annoyance of others that would get you a bunch o fives in the cinema but it is NOT a night out. It is watching DVDs at home and anyone can do that ~ there is nothing special in it, no romance, no "treat". Still good luck to you ~ prolly take about ten years to pay for the experience when compared to going to the cinema once a month but what the f*ck ~ if it floats your boat I wish you luck with it.
Me ~ I would rather take my family for a "treat" now and than sit them down at home with a DVD they have seen before.
To me, you see, it's like the difference between going to the freezer and making the kids an icecream cone or taking them down to the seaside and buying them a Mr Whippy.
Offered the choice between my hiring a DVD or taking them to the cinema (to see the same film) I know which they would opt for.

You see, there is a world of difference between 'hiring a DVD' and watching it on your old telly and a true home cinema experience. If you haven't actually seen the technology in action I can see why you can't appreciate the benefits of it.

The fact is I like to see Clint Eastwood oozing menace on a forty foot high screen. I don't get the same buzz from a 48inch Plasma screen no matter how good the picture quality is. Going out with the kids is a treat for all of us. Staying at home to watch the same movie is not ~ even if they do notice that they are listening to a set of woofers and tweeters second to none (which they won't).
You are comparing apples with pears. "Home Cinema" or large room with Surround Sound, an uprated video player & projector displaying the movie on a screen or even onto the wall is not like a Cinema and that's that.
