Ghost bikes

I have seen these more and more recently and hadn't got a clue what they were or why they had come about. Knew it had to be from America though  noooo:

Ghost bikes are memorials for cyclists who are killed or injured in accidents. A bicycle is painted white and locked up near the crash site, and a small plaque with the person's name is placed next to the bike. They serve as reminders of the tragedy that took place on an otherwise anonymous street corner, and as quiet statements in support of cyclists' right to safe travel.

The first ghost bikes were created in St. Louis, Missouri in 2003, and they have since appeared in over 80 cities throughout the world. For those who create and install the memorials, the death of a fellow bicyclist hits home

What was wrong with the flowers normally tied to a lampost was that not poignant enough? Who the hell provides these bikes and why are they not stolen or taken away ??? How long are they supposed to be there??

Does this happen elsewhere in the country  shrugs:

Not in Surrey. Around here, I would probably snigger a bit, cyclists are generally terrors  eveilgrin:

Utterly tasteless idea ~ not Nick in a Shroud, I'm sure we would all like to see that, but the "Ghost Cycles". Most cyclists get killed or injured because they are arrogant twats who think they own the fvcking road, behave stupidly when riding their machines and often cycle along with their ears blocked by their ipods so they aren't even aware of on coming traffic ~ AND another thing you idiots ~ a plastic lid from Halfords, planted at a jaunty angle on your big head, does not grant you immortality  cussing:

I'd like to see the government statistics on that one Snoops.

As a cyclist I will obviously defend us two wheeled planet savers, though I do hate the planet.  For me the real problem on the road is putting the general moronic public in control of a 2 ton lump of metal.  Every single day I see at least one instance of a car jumping a red light, overtakaking on the inside, cutting someone up etc.  I'd also wager that most cyclist deaths are caused by excessive speed from the motor involved because let's face it, Jo Public would speed if they knew they could get away with it.

As for the white bikes, what a crock of shit!  They're dead, get drunk and move on...

There will come a time when you have to take your fingers out of your ears, to make some chips maybe, or allowing for the time difference, raise a glass or two....It will get you in the end resistance is futile...,. angel1
